The Secret of Sinchanee is special to me for one reason: it's the first film I've ever watched and reviewed as one of the very first people to ever do so, before it's even come out. As of right now, there is only one review for it posted on Rotten Tomatoes, and a grand total of four ratings on Letterboxd. Though this is by no means a big, hotly-anticipated release, that's still exciting to me, and I deeply thank Loud and Clear for giving me this first-time experience.
Oh, and the movie itself is fine. A decent way to kick off the season of spooks. Read my full review to find out why!

Could have been a good movie but the editing and the two different stories within the plot are just horrible. The run time is almost two hours and nothing great gets accomplished in those two hours. Not worth watching.

The secret's out on The Secret of Sinchanee.
This movie wasn't as great as I hope it would be.The story tried to work three stories into one plot and it became an uneven balance at times. The paranormal entity, the Stark family, and the Donovan family had their own structure going for it but the acting from the characters tends to drown the suspense that should be there.
It feels more like a mystery thriller than it does a paranormal/supernatural horror. The supernatural part played often the small role in this story as the focus comes to the family aspect of the tale. Steven Grayhm, who played Will Stark in this, had a very wooden personality to this and…

There is a lot to like here. I really liked the atmosphere. (What can I say, I am a sucker for dreary shots of the woods in the winter.) The premise and lore were interesting and kept me wanting to know more. It is just a shame that the plot was so bland and predictable. There was also an overall lack of suspense and tension that really held the film back. The acting (with the exception of the end credits scene) was okay. I feel, as seems to be the case with so many modern films, this film was hamstrung by lackluster writing. I’m not sure why but modern films seem to really struggle in this area.

No one in Deerfield has a Boston accent. These arenot even close to a Boston accents either. It feels like everyone is trying to be from Southie and it’s truly ruining it for me. The big dude does feel like an Irish Catholic Boston scumbag though. Jesus Christ…we get it…these people are from Massachusetts. Enough with the references. Wait…all these Boston references and you can’t even fucking call it Stop and Shop…fuck you.
Oh shit!!! That’s Gabby. From Gabby’s Dollhouse. I really hope Pandipaws is in this too!!
This sucks. -

"What they fear, what they don't understand, they destroy."
This felt like a much better movie trapped inside the hulking mass of a much bigger, more disorganized exterior. Not awful, but not great.
